Rider Stories: Jacky and her ‘Mean Machine’

Posted on Mon, Jun 06, 22

Jacky rode her vintage tricycle in our Jurassic Classic event on May 21st with her husband Andrew. Jacky proudly calls her tricycle her 'Mean Machine ' and has competed in multiple bike events on it, including a number of UKCE sportives.

The furthest Jacky has ridden in a single ride is 35 miles. However riding for Jacky is so much more than just high mileage. Jacky told us how she enjoys every part of a bike event. From the arriving, registration, meeting other competitors on route and finally crossing the finish line.

"It that makes me feel proud and knowing that I can do it. It gives me great satisfaction when the medal is put around my neck and I have so many of the other cyclists saying compliments and commenting on the tricycle." Jacky P.

Jacky explained that if it wasn't for her husband she wouldn't be riding her Mean Machine at all. After suffering from pneumonia and losing the use of her legs she thought she would never ride a bike again. However with great support and determination she has shown it can be done.

Jacky hopes that as one of very few tricycle riders competing in events (if not the only one) she can encourage other people to get involved on their very own Mean Machine.

Each month we will be featuring a story from one of our UKCE riders. We love to hear about your reasons for riding; whether it be getting back to health after injury, training for a big adventure or simply to spend time with friends. So please get in touch if you have something to share.
