Freewheel announced as new headline sponsor to New Forest Spring Sportive

If you’re looking to ride through the heart of nature on your bike this spring, you’ll be pleased to hear that organisers of the popular New Forest Spring Sportive are turning things up a notch, with a brand new sponsor and several exciting additions to the 2019 event.

Today UK Cycling Events has announced cycling website, Freewheel.co.uk, as a new headline sponsor to the event, with plans to bring a raft of top cycling brands and activity to the event village.

It includes a Ridgeback kids’ bike test track, free Shimano bike checks for last-minute tweaks and if your headwear needs an upgrade, you can trade in your old helmet for 20% off a selection of brand new Lazer lids in the Lazer Helmet Amnesty.

Freewheel is also offering a chance to win £2,000 worth of cycling goodies, including a stunning new Genesis Equilibrium Disc 10.

Now in its 10th year, the New Forest Spring sportive is already established as the go-to cycling event in the region. Due to its popularity, the event is almost always a sell-out and runs on Saturday and Sunday.

This year’s edition takes place on 13th and 14th April from the beautiful and prestigious grounds of the Somerley House Estate. Taking in some of the very best scenery of the New Forest National Park, it features three routes ranging from 30 miles/48km and an elevation of 840ft for beginners to 81miles/130km and an elevation of 2,539ft. Plenty of short, sharp climbs feature along the standard and epic routes for those seeking to test the legs.

UK Cycling Events Manager, Natalie Hicks, says the addition of Freewheel will help to bring an entirely new flavour to the event this year.

She says: “We’ve been running the event for nearly a decade and year on year we’re pleased to welcome so many returning riders as well as those who haven’t experienced this bucket-list ride, but it’s recently been craving a new sponsor to give it a fresh breath of life. We’re thrilled to have Freewheel on board. Their support will completely transform this event and help bring those extra special things that will take it to the next level.”

All riders of the Freewheel New Forest Spring Sportive will be given a 10% discount to shop online at Freewheel.

New cycling website, Freewheel.co.uk sets out to offer cyclists something truly different, while supporting independent shops up and down the country. Shoppers can browse thousands of top brands and by nominating a local bike shop, all purchases will go to small businesses that are the heart of cycling in the UK and Ireland. It brings together the convenience of the internet with the expertise of your local bike shop.

Marketing Director at Freewheel, Kellie Parsons, said: “We are so excited to be sponsoring our first sportive and what a great place for it to be. The New Forest is known for beautiful road cycling, so we couldn’t be happier. Freewheel.co.uk is all about giving cyclists the best consumer experience possible while supporting local bike shops. It’s all about getting bums on saddles and we can’t wait for April.”

Riders will still enjoy well-stocked feed stations along the route, all supplied by the event’s nutrition partner, Science in Sport, as well as fully-signed routes, on-course mechanical support and an all-important medal at the finish. For any sore legs, massage will be available in the event village from Six Physio.

Riders taking part on Sunday can also benefit from the support of expert Ride Leaders from Njinga Cycling who will accompany cyclists along the route and help with pacing.

UK Cycling Events, which is based in the New Forest, works to ensure riders are aware of the New Forest Cycling Code and respects the local environment.

Entry for the Epic and Standard routes costs £40, while the Short route costs £31. Riders buying two tickets will receive an extra 10% off. For more information, route, competition and entry details visit the UK Cycling Events website.
