As stunning as it is challenging, the Wiggle Wye Valley Warrior sportive bridges the gap between England and Wales and gives you the best views, climbs and cycling roads of the border towns and villages of both states.
Starting out from Chepstow Racecourse, you’ll head for one of the main attractions straight away as you’ll tackle the hills of the Wye Valley first of all. Following the River Wye all the way, darting left and right as do the roads you’re sure to enjoy the ride alongside the water. Sit up and absorb the stunning cliff faces and river below before criss-crossing once more and heading into England.
Once on the English part of the course, you’ll enter the Forest of Dean soon after leaving Wales. One or two small climbs wait in the Forest’s sheltered and remote roads, but they shouldn’t make you too uncomfortable to enjoy the tranquillity and wilderness along the wooded roads.
Heading up through Ruspidge, you’ll bear left at Nailbridge and head west once more. Around Upper Lydbrook, you’ll meet the River Wye again and pass over it, although much closer inland compared to before. The winding country lanes continue, as the undulating terrain around the Welsh and English border will keep pushing you along on up-and-down sections.
Crossing the River Wye yet again, you’re back on Welsh soil and on the home straight, although there’s still time for a sizeable loop to harness the unique rolling hills in the area. The last couple of hills might smart with tired legs, but you’d expect nothing less on such a comprehensive border-crossing tour of the valleys.
We always welcome volunteers at our events so if you fancy joining the crew for the day and helping out, please get in touch. You will be rewarded for your efforts and will be able to choose an event to ride for free. If this particular event is fully staffed, you can always put your name down for another event. More information about volunteering can be found on our Volunteer at a Cycling Event page, along with the link to the online application form.

Although all our rides are non competitive events (i.e. not races), most people still like to know how well they've done. With this in mind we will time each participants ride. When you complete your ride your time will be calculated and these timings, along with the timing award you achieved, will be displayed on our results page. Each rider will receive a timing award of either; bronze, silver or gold, depending on their average speed. Of course, some riders aren't bothered about all these awards and just cycle for the experience and stunning scenery.
