Wiggle Southern Rough Ride

Sunday 11th February 2018

We are sorry to inform you that, after looking at all possibilities to re-schedule The Southern Rough Ride which was postponed this weekend, there are unfortunately no viable dates/venue’s available. Therefore, we have made the difficult decision to not run this event in 2018.

Please email your preference to enquiries@ukcyclingevents.co.uk before the end of March 2018.

*PLEASE NOTE: Events not included in the transfers are French Events, Velo Club Tickets, No Excuses events or MBR Demo Days.

If you have any further queries regarding this event please do not hesitate to contact us at enquiries@ukcyclingevents.co.uk

We are sorry for the inconvenience this may have caused.

We are sorry to announce that the Wiggle Southern Rough Ride MTB has been postponed.

The route in sections is extremely saturated, making riding conditions in places hazardous, and with the change in the weather forecast, for further rain and increased temperatures we have made the necessary decision to postpone the event.

We have made best efforts to try and find an alternative route to avoid these sections but unfortunately, it hasn't been possible.

We will be looking at all viable options over the next few days to re-schedule this event and will update you as soon as possible.

Thank you for your understanding our decision. Rider safety will always remain our primary concern.

You might struggle to find an event that can promise to kick-start your cycling season in such a fashion quite like the Wiggle Southern Rough Ride mountain bike event – a classic start-of-season off-road event that is based in the heart of the South Downs in Sussex, and explores all of the best descents in the area.

Notably, these exciting drops are in Amberley, Arundel and Steyning on an undulating course that is rarely testing by offering any major climbs but adds up smaller inclines to make for a challenging day in the saddle all the same.

You’ll start your off-road day on the bike in Amberley and head out straight onto the hills, taking in rural farm roads and scenic trails out towards Burpham. Avoiding the sharp gradient around Perry Hill, you’ll skirt around this on fairer terrain as you follow trails that head east, with the main loop forming a large anti-clockwise adventure that heads as far south as Findon, near Worthing, before linking up with the South Downs Way.

Once you’re past Findon, the Steyning Bowl and Round Hill make for a welcome section of up-and-down fast technical descents and testing climbs. The contour lines on the map get closer and closer thereafter, as some parts of the course around here are steep but very rewarding.

As soon as these hillier parts are conquered, it’s back onto the South Downs Way and out towards Amberley. The last few miles point directly downhill for an easy and fast final push towards the finish line.

There is no better way to start your mountain bike cycling season than joining us off-road on the Wiggle Southern Rough Ride

Times and Awards

Although all our rides are non competitive events (i.e. not races), most people still like to know how well they've done. With this in mind we will time each participants ride. When you complete your ride your time will be calculated and these timings, along with the timing award you achieved, will be displayed on our results page. Each rider will receive a timing award of either; bronze, silver or gold, depending on their average speed. Of course, some riders aren't bothered about all these awards and just cycle for the experience and stunning scenery.
