This end-of-season Wiggle South Downs 100 event is a unique tour of South Downs cycling. Not only can you pit your wits against a challenging course spanning Hampshire and Sussex, but you’ll also be able to take on one of the climbs against the clock on closed roads... a real chance to give it your all, as if you were gunning for a polka dot jersey.
If a timed hill-climb wasn’t enough as part of a sportive, then notching up a century adds an extra layer of attraction to the discerning endurance rider. With a whole feast of ascents to tuck in to you’ll have certainly earned the right to feel proud at the end of this classic event.
Heading out from Chichester, we’ll start you out on a gradual climb, easing you into a day comprising over 5,000 feet of ascent. The road takes you north and soon enough you’ll be in amid the whale-backed mounds of the South Downs. Make yourself at home — the national park and its numerous ups and downs will be your host for the whole day. Be prepared for one particularly rapid descent just after Duncton — indeed, as well as testing your ability to climb, the route is peppered with technical drops, testing both your handling and your nerve.
The Epic route will take you briefly outside the tip of the national park before heading back in to continue chipping away at the miles. Skirting around Midhurst on an undulating ribbon of tarmac bordered by neatly nibbled pastureland, the course now begins to build to its finale…
With the countryside tour continuing as you pass under the outskirts of Petersfield, you'll find yourself at the foot of the day’s foremost appointment — Butser Hill, the highest point of the South Downs.
The Marmot Tours Butser Hill challenge - this unique climb isn’t long but tops out at 21 per cent. We’ll time you separately from the main event and this year we’ve teamed up with Marmot Tours who will award the King and Queen of the Mountain a whopping £100 voucher, so be sure to save some gas and give it your all! Good luck!
This is your last chance to get in a century on the Wiggle Super Series this year... so go on... get out and ride!
We always welcome volunteers at our events so if you fancy joining the crew for the day and helping out, please get in touch. You will be rewarded for your efforts and will be able to choose an event to ride for free. If this particular event is fully staffed, you can always put your name down for another event. More information about volunteering can be found on our Volunteer at a Cycling Event page, along with the link to the online application form.

Although all our rides are non competitive events (i.e. not races), most people still like to know how well they've done. With this in mind we will time each participants ride. When you complete your ride your time will be calculated and these timings, along with the timing award you achieved, will be displayed on our results page. Each rider will receive a timing award of either; bronze, silver or gold, depending on their average speed. Of course, some riders aren't bothered about all these awards and just cycle for the experience and stunning scenery.
SportivePhoto will be taking pictures of all riders at this event. Please visit www.sportivephoto.com once you have taken part in the event to view your photos!
