As the name of this sportive suggests, it’s all about hills on this ride-out – as you’ll take in the best of them atop the chalky cliffs of the historic Jurassic Coast in Dorset. If you’ve got what it takes to beat the Wiggle Purbeck Hill-a-Saurus, line up for a mix of challenging climbs, fast-flowing technical single track and swooping descents.
Please note that the routes for this event are currently being plotted, with the addition of a short route for 2017. The distances advertised are what we are aiming to achieve but they may vary by a couple of miles. We will announce via our newsletter (sign up at the foot of this page), Facebook and Twitter when the new routes are live.
As you head out of the start, the first few miles will be uphill but you’ll soon be rewarded with a pleasing run of drops while you head out towards the sea. This sets the tone of the course, as an up-and-down route that is just as rewarding as it is challenging for a test of gradient.
Cresting the top of the Ballard Down hillside, you’ll get right up and close to the Jurassic Coast before entering Studland, riding on top of the ridged shore, until it’s time to stop at the first feed station of the day. From here, you’ll head inland briefly while taking in forest and woodland trails with the sea still in sight.
You’ll cross points of the old and historic Swanage Railway while you continue through the rolling Dorset countryside – reaching the same hillside section of the Purbeck Heritage Coast as was ridden earlier while you complete the geographical circular loop of the area, soon passing Corfe Castle and then heading back out to the Wareham start and finish point.
It’s a tough ride, but you’re bound to savour the technical drops as much as you might lament the tricky climbs – all topped off with the magnificent views along the way.
We want to encourage young riders to enjoy the pleasure of cycling. That's why all riders under 16 years ride for free when accompanied by a paying adult. Valid ID will be requested on the day.
A 20% discount will be applied automatically at checkout when you enter 4 (four) or more riders into a single event. This offer does not apply to the Wattbike No Excuses events, the MBR Demo Day, Brewin Dolphin Velo Club tickets and the UKCE Le Classique French Sportive. Mates Rates do not apply to any Late Entry offers.
Online pre-entry is the easiest way of entering and saves £5.00 per person vs. entering on the day. Online pre-entry will save you time on the day of the event allowing you to simply pick up your registration pack from the Pre entered registration points. Please note: If an event reaches its capacity we will have to close the event to riders wanting to enter on the day. It is therefore best to pre enter online to avoid disappointment!
On the day entries are available at all our events as long as the event has not sold out prior to the event day. On the day entries are subject to an additional £5.00 per person surcharge. Payment can be made with cash or cheque. You can fill out an entry form when you arrive at the event. One entry form must be completed per person. Wiggle Customers will not be able to receive any loyalty discounts on the day.
Although all our rides are non competitive events (i.e. not races), most people still like to know how well they've done. With this in mind we will time each participants ride. When you complete your ride your time will be calculated and these timings, along with the timing Award you achieved, will be displayed on the Website. Each rider will receive a timing award of either; bronze, silver or gold, depending on their average speed. Of course, some riders aren't bothered about all these awards and just cycle for the experience and stunning scenery.
SportivePhoto will be taking pictures of all riders at this event. Please visit www.sportivephoto.com once you have taken part in the event to view your photos!
By purchasing an event entry you agree to the UK Cycling Events terms and conditions.
