Wiggle Bournemouth Sportive
Welcome to the

Wiggle Bournemouth Sportive

Sunday 10th June 2018

Venue: Chapel Gate, East Parley, Christchurch, BH23 6BL

This ride explores the captivating countryside and surrounding scenery throughout the counties of Dorset, Hampshire and Wiltshire. Balancing quiet rural roads that flow through meadows and woodland and packing in three testing climbs in Win Green, Bulbarrow and Milton Abbas, this all-round sportive offers something for every type of rider, from the outright beginner to the seasoned sportiviste.

Crossing over the River Avon and skirting around the western edge of the New Forest, this sportive is not short of spectacle. Tired legs aside, you’ll ride roads that deliver panoramic views of distant Somerset from Bulbarrow, Dorset’s highest point. You’ll also pass through the quintessentially British picture postcard village of Milton Abbas before tackling the climb of the same name. North Dorset’s North Downs are the icing on this tasty three-county cake.

From the edges of the New Forest and onwards, the course remains fairly easy work, until you reach the aforementioned Milton Abbas. After a long, drawn-out build-up, you’ll reach its peak at just under 900ft. Continuing on, the following few miles are undulating and won’t be easy preparation for the next Bulbarrow climb, which follows soon afterwards, and will take you just as high up.

The final push towards the finish line should phase no-one that has successfully completed the most testing climbs of the day. Surrounding woodland and stunning views make this a testing sportive ideal for anyone looking for a mid-season challenge.

Times and Awards

Although all our rides are non competitive events (i.e. not races), most people still like to know how well they've done. With this in mind we will time each participants ride. When you complete your ride your time will be calculated and these timings, along with the timing award you achieved, will be displayed on our results page. Each rider will receive a timing award of either; bronze, silver or gold, depending on their average speed. Of course, some riders aren't bothered about all these awards and just cycle for the experience and stunning scenery.
