For our last Gravel Series events this year we are heading to the South Downs where we have multiple routes on offer, so there really is something for everyone to come and give Gravel a go!
Our Gravel series is designed for ALL riders to come and give some off-road riding a go. Whether you’ve done it plenty of times before, or this is your very first ride, it really doesn’t matter.
The Gravel Series South Downs routes start at the open-air industrial heritage museum at Amberley and make good use of the local bridleways in the form of the Monarch’s Way and the famous South Downs Way. The terrain varies throughout the route to include a mix of vehicle width farm tracks and some of the narrower flowing single track trails. One minute you’ll be hauling yourself upwards, the next whooping with joy as the route chases the contours of the Downs and heads to the base of the hills.
Your gravel adventure will bring you back into Amberley through the market town of Arundel, so make sure you take time to look for the medieval Arundel Castle perched on top of the hill. There are some punchy descents to watch out for essentially on flinty terrain that boasts some deep ruts. The route can be challenging in sections but nothing even the most cautious of rider can’t handle if taken nice and steadily.
Of course, you’ll be rewarded for all your muddy efforts as you cross the finish line to receive a bespoke wooden finishers medal, beer from Freedom Brewery and other goodies from our partners at Jimmy’s Iced Coffee and OTE sports.
