Set the scene for a great cycling season by taking on the Sigma Sports Surrey Hills Cyclone Sportive, experiencing some of Surrey and Sussex’s tough climbing roads making a memorable day in the saddle.
Setting off from the village of Lingfield you will be out in the country before you know it, as all three routes head east towards Edenbridge with gentle rolling roads to get those legs warm for what’s about to come.
At Bough Beech, the Short route riders take a quick shortcut while the Epic and Standard riders head out on a 10-mile loop passing the Bough Beech reservoir. All three routes join up again just outside of Bough Beech, and all riders enter into the High Weald Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty as you will pass through wooded, rolling hills.
At Hartfield, the Short route riders will split from the pack once again and start to make their way home, passing North of Ashdown Forest and up to Lingfield.
The Standard and Epic route riders will travel further south towards Ashdown Forest, passing low lying meadows to reveal the Weir Wood Reservoir, a stunning 1.5-mile long stretch of water built in 1951. From here the Epic riders enjoy a southern loop dropping down towards Horsted Keynes for a pit stop. Once refuelled, riders will take on the steep climbs around Ardingly to reach the top of Turners Hill - the name says it all!
Re-joining the Standard route, riders will be glad to give their legs a rest on the downhill sections heading back to the venue. But remember to leave enough in the tank for the last climb of the day, between Felcourt and Dormansland, before grabbing yourself a well-deserved medal.
With three routes to choose from, The Sigma Sports Surrey Hills Cyclone Sportive is a great mid-season event for all abilities of cyclists to enjoy.
We always welcome volunteers at our events so if you fancy joining the crew for the day and helping out, please get in touch. You will be rewarded for your efforts and will be able to choose an event to ride for free. If this particular event is fully staffed, you can always put your name down for another event. More information about volunteering can be found on our Volunteer at a Cycling Event page, along with the link to the online application form.
Although all our rides are non competitive events (i.e. not races), most people still like to know how well they've done. With this in mind we will time each participants ride. When you complete your ride your time will be calculated and these timings, along with the timing award you achieved, will be displayed on our results page. Each rider will receive a timing award of either; bronze, silver or gold, depending on their average speed. Of course, some riders aren't bothered about all these awards and just cycle for the experience and stunning scenery.
SportivePhoto will be taking pictures of all riders at this event. Please visit www.sportivephoto.com once you have taken part in the event to view your photos!
