The No Excuses concept is simple – book, turn up to ride and get your entry fee refunded!
Or, if you are feeling super generous, you can opt to have your entry fee donated to Alzheimer’s Research UK instead.
This rolling early season event is the perfect way to wake up those winter legs, and help support our official charity partner, Alzheimer’s Research UK.
Not only will you travel parts of the historic Staffordshire and Leicester shire countryside, but we’ll also take you on a well-rounded tour of the area, with an opportunity to ride happily in the knowledge that your miles will be making a difference.
Starting from Uttoxeter Racecourse, one of Britain’s leading national hunt tracks, you’ll ride south towards our first landmark of Blithfield Reservoir, with glorious views across the water on a clear day. From here, head eastwards to the towns of Yoxall and Barton-under-Needwood, with its Tudor Grade II-listed church.
Riders continue east, taking in views as you cross the River Trent, Britain’s third longest river, before the route meanders south, crossing the River Mease for the first time.
Here, the route splits, with our standard route turning back northwards towards home, with enough distance spare to welcome the first sights of spring as you trace the fringes of the iconic National Forest on the journey.
Epic riders will continue to travel south as far as Twycross, where they will also turn their attention northwards passing through the National Forest and Needwood Forest on the way home for a well-earned medal and all for a good cause!
This price tier is for those who want to secure a place in this sell-out event, but are unsure if they will make it on the day. This entry fee will not be refunded regardless if you turn up on the day or not but at least it's only half the normal fee, so no shows won't lose out as much. Those who do turn up having entered the Half an Excuse routes get to ride an awesome event for half the price. Terms and conditions can be found below.
Alzheimer’s is the leading cause of dementia, and it’s a disease that no-one has yet survived. In fact, it is the only one of the world’s top ten diseases that has no treatment to slow or cure it. But Alzheimer’s Research UK is committed to changing that.
Alzheimer’s Research UK is the UK’s leading dementia research charity dedicated to diagnosis, prevention, treatment and cure.
Backed by our passionate scientists and supporters, we’re challenging the way people think about dementia, bringing together the people and organisations who can speed up progress. Thanks to cyclists like you, we’re investing in research to make breakthroughs possible.
We always welcome volunteers at our events so if you fancy joining the crew for the day and helping out, please get in touch. More information about volunteering can be found on our Volunteer at a Cycling Event page, along with the link to the online application form.

Although all our rides are non competitive events (i.e. not races), most people still like to know how well they've done. With this in mind we will time each participants ride. When you complete your ride your time will be calculated and these timings, along with the timing award you achieved, will be displayed on our results page. Each rider will receive a timing award of either; bronze, silver or gold, depending on their average speed. Of course, some riders aren't bothered about all these awards and just cycle for the experience and stunning scenery.
SportivePhoto will be taking pictures of all riders at this event. Please visit www.sportivephoto.com once you have taken part in the event to view your photos!
