Cycling Down Dementia South East

Event Venue: Lingfield Racecourse, Lingfield Park, Racecourse Road, Lingfield, Surrey, RH7 6PQ

The Cycling Down Dementia South East Sportive is back for the 2020 season and marks our final event of the year! With two routes to choose from you'll be making your way through Surrey into Kent. This late-season sportive will make you wish that the season isn't over.

Don’t turn to the turbo trainer this winter before you’ve had the chance to get some final outdoor miles in at this late-season sportive. It's also a chance to make a difference for our charity partner, Alzheimer's Research UK, and the Cycle Down Dementia fundraiser.

Starting out from Lingfield Racecourse, we start (as the sportives name suggests) heading south-east into the characteristic mosaic of medieval manors, farms and woodlands that make the High Weald AONB that it is. Be sure of some spectacular scenery and riding as you roll along within the pristine landscape of the High Weald AONB for the majority of your ride, not forgetting a brief stint in the neighbouring Surrey Hills with pretty English countryside villages dominating our route.

At Hartfield, our short ride turns north for a more gentle day in the saddle. For those keen to ramp up the mileage, continue east for a short time, after which our standard route veers north at Groombridge. There’ll be a chance to pick up your average pace as you return west, with a long wooded straight to Bells View Green.

Leave enough in the tank to tackle the climb out from Groombridge, before continuing to skirt Royal Tunbridge Wells. You’ll pedal as far as Bough Beech Reservoir, rewarding you with some humbling views across the water. Riders will continue to ride South for a time before looping across to Cowden Cross Station, where you'll point your handlebars towards home at Lingfield Racecourse.

Times and Awards
Times and Awards

Although all our rides are non competitive events (i.e. not races), most people still like to know how well they've done. With this in mind we will time each participants ride. When you complete your ride your time will be calculated and these timings, along with the timing award you achieved, will be displayed on our results page. Each rider will receive a timing award of either; bronze, silver or gold, depending on their average speed. Of course, some riders aren't bothered about all these awards and just cycle for the experience and stunning scenery.

What our customers say about us

  • I would just like to say a big thank you to all the marshals and support mechanics on the Wattbike Falkirk Ride on Sunday; the guys were absolutely amazing. We had several issues en route including punctures, cramps, a crash and ever-decreasing morale, but these guys supported us right to the bitter end and got us through the epic course. I have never attended such a well-organised event; even the signage was spot on. So well done and thank you!

  • Well organised, great routes and good support leads to excellence bike rides.

  • Did the Watt Bike 40 mile Sportive today, had a lovely time. Great route on quiet roads with challenging hills, all well signposted and a lovely atmosphere. The marshalls & staff deserve a special thank you for standing out for hours in truly gruesome weather. The feed station was well stocked with all needs catered for, the bike wash stocked up with Muc-off products and the soup at the end were the icing on the cake. Southwell racecourse had brilliant facilities. Shame about the weather being freezing cold & sooo wet but totally worth it, had a lot of fun. Thank you to all involved.

  • Had one amazing experience. My first 100 miles on the bike in amazing route, friendly staff. Really recommend UK cycling events. Can not wait for the next one.

  • A great day out with great staff and well planned.
