Cobbler Classic Sportive

Event Venue: Turweston Aerodrome, Biddlesden Road, Westbury, Brackley, NN13 5YD

Taking its name from the shoe-making history of its Northamptonshire surroundings, the Cobbler Classic Sportive will take you through some of the county’s best sights and cycling roads. With no major climbs on the course and two routes to choose from, this sportive makes for the perfect late-season spin.

The lack of climbs on the Cobbler Classic Sportive can be a welcome respite for those wanting to wind down after a challenging season of cycling. That said, the undulating nature of the route means it never really levels out with plenty of ups and downs leaving you to set your own stride, with the odd helpful short downhill push every now and again.

As you set off from just outside Brackley, you’ll pass through the sleepy villages of Shalstone and Chackmore, with quiet country lanes connecting them, before going over the top of Silverstone, with the historic race track on your left on the way through.

After a stretch on a long and straight country lane, you’ll dip into Towcester before it’s out into the open once more. One or two short and sharp climbs may crop up around this part of the course, but climbs tend to be rolling, brief and joined up, making this an ideal all-weather event.

As you weave through rural roads that lead to villages such as Byfield and Aston Le Wells on the way back to the ride HQ, you can afford to empty the tank near the end as the gradient will stay the same throughout. After reaching Biddleston, you’re nearly there, and ready to claim a well-deserved finisher’s medal once over the line.

The Cobbler Classic Sportive is certainly not our most difficult cycling event and is an ideal chance for riders to rack up some more miles on their bike before the season ends, without too much climbing to worry about.

Times and Awards
Times and Awards

Although all our rides are non competitive events (i.e. not races), most people still like to know how well they've done. With this in mind we will time each participants ride. When you complete your ride your time will be calculated and these timings, along with the timing award you achieved, will be displayed on our results page. Each rider will receive a timing award of either; bronze, silver or gold, depending on their average speed. Of course, some riders aren't bothered about all these awards and just cycle for the experience and stunning scenery.

What our customers say about us

  • I completed the Ay Up Yorkshire this weekend. The EPIC course was my first 100mile ride, and I really enjoyed the challenge. The big climbs are close enough to home to give them another go! Really well-organised, excellent course signs, and great to see medical support available out one the course.😀👍

  • I would just like to say a big thank you to all the marshals and support mechanics on the Wattbike Falkirk Ride on Sunday; the guys were absolutely amazing. We had several issues en route including punctures, cramps, a crash and ever-decreasing morale, but these guys supported us right to the bitter end and got us through the epic course. I have never attended such a well-organised event; even the signage was spot on. So well done and thank you!

  • well organised event. The new forest route was stunning with beautiful wild life on the way

  • Well organised, great routes and good support leads to excellence bike rides.

  • A great day out with great staff and well planned.

  • I went on the Box Hill sportive. It was a very well organized event, with marshals at the busiest junctions and signage at every junction, plus feed stations. There was a proper start/finish line with chip timing. The route was downloadable in advance as a .gpx file. Very nice scenery in the surrey hills area of outstanding natural beauty.

  • Had one amazing experience. My first 100 miles on the bike in amazing route, friendly staff. Really recommend UK cycling events. Can not wait for the next one.

  • Brilliantly organised event! I'm very new to cycling and did this event on my own but still chatted to lots of people and had a great day! Would definitely recommend UKCE to everyone! To top it off it was a lovely warm day in the beautiful New Forest! Excellent

  • Just completed the Eye up in Rippon the Standard absolutely brilliant well organised and good signage. Have done a few e events this year. 2020 I will be in my 80th year so looking forward to taking part in UK Cycling Events.
