Santa Ride South Sportive

Sunday 10th December 2017

UPDATE - 9th December 2017: EVENT CANCELLED
Unfortunately due to the changing weather forecasts predicted for Sunday 10th December, and the days immediately prior, we have, for the safety of all involved in the event, taken the decision to cancel this year's Santa Ride - South.

We have been monitoring the weather closely and it has progressively worsened. Strong winds with gusts of up to 40mph coupled with low temperatures and rain are forecast.

All riders will be offered a free of charge transfer to any 2018 event in the UKCE Calendar (excluding French, New Forest, Demo Days and all Velo Club Events).

If a suitable transfer is not available then a full refund will be offered or alternatively, you can choose to donate your entry fee to our charity partner, Alzheimers Research UK.

Please email with your preference, whether it be a transfer, donation to ARUK or a refund. If transferring, please let us know what event you'd like to transfer to.

Your preference needs to be submitted to us by the end of December 2017.

Thank you for your understanding.

The Santa Ride South Sportive is your chance to get that last cycle ride in before Christmas. Join us on one of three routes, for a festive spin around Hampshire.

Heading out from Farnborough, riders won’t be the only things taking off as they glide past Farnborough Airport before taking on their own adventure for the day.

The first village riders come across is Church Crookham, a mainstay for the event that is the first and last place riders pass on the day’s riding. Further up the road, the day’s short distance riders will turn off at Crondall as they head south to Dippenhall before turning back to the finish in Farnborough.

Pushing along through the country lanes of Hampshire, riders will come to their second airbase of the day as they pass RAF Odiham, a historic base for American and British fighter pilots during the second world war.

The history doesn’t stop there for riders as they head into Odiham village centre. Once a royal haunt for the likes of King John and King Henry III, Odiham castle overlooks riders as they head west out of the civil parish.

Not long after departing from Odiham the Epic riders depart as they look to tackle the extra 16 miles that separates them from the Standard riders. The longer ride also tackles nearly 33% more elevation with Epic riders recording 3336ft of vertical gain, compared to 2246ft of the Standard practitioners.

Epic riders tackle the meandering country lanes as they delve into Medstead, before taking on the rolling countryside, which just like your favourite mulled wine, give this winter warmer a little kick.

After passing through Lasham, Epic riders rejoin their Standard rider counterparts as they start the journey back to Farnborough. From here you’d be forgiven for thinking it’s a simple ride home but several lumps lie between you and that gratifying finish line.

With just 5 miles to go, both Epic and Standard patrons face the last challenge as they peak the day’s final climb before a gentle coasting into Farnborough for a well-earned hot drink.

Please note that parking at the event is not at the main venue and is a 5-minute ride away. Riders will need to depart the car park with everything they will need on their ride.
There is a strict car park arrival time of 06:30 (no earlier please), due to the car park being locked until this time. There are no waiting spaces or areas outside the car park. So please try not to arrive before 06:30am. Thank you

Although all our rides are non competitive events (i.e. not races), most people still like to know how well they've done. With this in mind we will time each participants ride. When you complete your ride your time will be calculated and these timings, along with the timing award you achieved, will be displayed on the Website. Each rider will receive a timing award of either; bronze, silver or gold, depending on their average speed. Of course, some riders aren't bothered about all these awards and just cycle for the experience and stunning scenery.
