Hell of Hexham

The Wiggle Hell of Hexham Sportive is one 'Hell' of a challenge! New for 2013, this sportive starts from the convenient Hexham Racecourse, which boasts fantastic views over the Tyne Valley. From here the route heads southwest into the North Pennines, which is filled with quality climbs, breath taking views and extremely quiet roads!

The route takes you through Allendale town and then climbs to Coalclengh, it passes disused mines and out of season ski lifts, giving a sense of remoteness and escapism. At this point the route splits and the Epic route heads South and gets Very Hilly passing over 'Chapel Fell' which offers a long demanding climb. An awesome decent awaits before the challenge of 'White Hill', passing Bollinghope Common. From the top there are awe inspiring unrivalled views! The final climb of 'Long Hill' (there is a clue to the type of climb in the name) has to be concurred before the reoute rejoin the standard route and head North towards Derwent Resevoir.

A few climbs and endless stunning views of Hexham Common and the Tyne Valley await before riders will arrive back at Hexham Racecourse, where they will receive a quality goody bag and a well deserved medal! Post event refreshments and massages will also be waiting.

There are 3 route to choose from, 99 miles, 86miles, 52 miles. Due to the hilly nature of the this outstanding cycling area, all route will offer tough challenges for seasoned cyclists. The Epic route has over 3500 meters of climbing!

The area was described by UKCE route planning team as the 'best cycling they have seen in the whole of the UK... Epic...deserted...magnificent vistas. The one the whole team wants to cycle'.

Key Information

Online pre-entry

Online pre-entry is the easiest way of entering and saves £3.00 per person vs. entering on the day. Online pre-entry will save you time on the day of the event allowing you to simply pick up your registration pack from the 'Pre entered collection point' and avoid having to queue up. Please note: if a event reaches its capacity we will have to close the event to riders wanting to enter on the day. It is therefore best to pre enter online to avoid disappointment!

On the day entry

On the day entries are available at all our events as long as the event has not sold out prior to the event day. On the day entries are subject to an additional £3.00 per person surcharge. Payment can be made with cash or cheque. You can fill out an entry form when you arrive at the event. One entry form must be completed per person. Wiggle Customers will not be able to receive any loyalty discounts on the day.

Awards

Although all our rides are non competitive events (i.e. not races), most people still like to know how well they've done. With this in mind we will time each participants ride. When you complete your ride your time will be calculated and these timings, along with the timing Award you achieved, will be displayed on the Website. Each rider will receive a timing award of either; bronze, silver or gold, depending on their average speed. Of course, some riders aren't bothered about all these awards and just cycle for the experience and stunning scenery.

Event photography

www.sportivephoto.com will be taking pictures of all riders at this event. Please visit www.sportivephoto.com once you have taken part in the event to view your photos!
