Cycling Weekly Ripon Revolution

Yorkshire, for all of its natural beauty, is best explored by bicycle. A Tour de France Grand Depart and subsequently founded Tour de Yorkshire pay dividends to that sentiment, proving that the rustic landscape is a perfect test for road cycling with its harsh climbs, equally rewarding descents and magnificent scenery.

The Cycling Weekly Ripon Revolution will send you riding through the famous landscapes Yorkshire has made itself known for as you’ll set off from Ripon and see for yourself how the great hills and pastoral roads make for a great cycle route mix.

The first few miles start on an increasing hill incline, as we’ll give you chance to warm up your legs before taking on the highest peak of the day fairly soon after rolling over the start line. This ascent is part of a four-strong line-up of climbs that follow one another, passing Masham then the Leighton Reservoir, eventually reaching High Ash Moor at the top to take in the breath taking views across the surrounding area.

You’ll be able to rack up some speed on the descent down to Lofthouse, which starts off steep and levels out, following the River Nidd to pass the naturally attractive Gouthwaite Reservoir – before the next big uphill test, taking on the challenging climb of Greenhow Hill, just after passing through Pateley.

Once more, your efforts will be rewarded with a long and sprawling descent, offering some recovery time before it’s time to tackle to last two major climbs of the day, going over Round Hill and Brimham Rocks.

The hard work done, the remainder of the miles left until you reach ride HQ mostly lean downhill, so there’s no reason not to empty the tank, if you’ve got anything left to give, on your final push to earn a well-deserved finisher’s medal.

Key Information

Online pre-entry

Online pre-entry is the easiest way of entering and saves £5.00 per person vs. entering on the day. Online pre-entry will save you time on the day of the event allowing you to simply pick up your registration pack from the Pre entered registration points. Please note: If an event reaches its capacity we will have to close the event to riders wanting to enter on the day. It is therefore best to pre enter online to avoid disappointment!

On the day entry

On the day entries are available at all our events as long as the event has not sold out prior to the event day. On the day entries are subject to an additional £5.00 per person surcharge. Payment can be made with cash or cheque. You can fill out an entry form when you arrive at the event. One entry form must be completed per person. Wiggle Customers will not be able to receive any loyalty discounts on the day.

Awards

Although all our rides are non competitive events (i.e. not races), most people still like to know how well they've done. With this in mind we will time each participants ride. When you complete your ride your time will be calculated and these timings, along with the timing Award you achieved, will be displayed on the Website. Each rider will receive a timing award of either; bronze, silver or gold, depending on their average speed. Of course, some riders aren't bothered about all these awards and just cycle for the experience and stunning scenery.
